Haakon . Marit . Thor

May 2008

As of late, I have sat down many times to write a quick journal entry of some sweet moment or new accomplishment Haakon or Marit may have had. I tap my figures lightly on the keep board as I think.... nothing cute comes to mind. Just the frustrations do. So, to document for Haakon and Marit's sake, so they can look back and read about the crazy things they did... this is what I will say.

Friday early in the morning we dropped Daddy off at the airport to fly to DC for the ACR conference. Apparently he is a big deal when it comes to the resident/fellow section and has lots of responsibilities. (So he had to go) He said, love you and see you in ten days. He might as well say 10 months! Since he has been gone Marit has made the computer crash, broke the DVD player, almost broke a lamp, and came down with strep throat so that we have been isolated from our friends and church. Haakon has come up with new and inventive ways to pee on, trees, sandbox, on top of the toilet seat, on the floor next to the hamper. He has taken Marit's lead, if food is served that is not just perfect he swipes the dish with his hand and sends the food flying unto the floor. It does not matter how much food I make him pick up, he still has not failed to do this act each day. Fortunately only one plate has been shattered. If a drop of water lands on his shirt it is time for a new one. We worked so hard on Friday getting all the laundry done and hung up. Well, a no napped Haakon with a drop of water on his shirt tore down every single piece of clothing in his closet looking for the right shirt which was not there. (Yes he did pick them all back up with much persuasion and a few treats)
Marit has learned to climb the back of the bunk beds thanks to her encouraging brother. Haakon decided to put a bunch of pillows below to jump into. Marit has attempted to jump as well as she counts, 1..2..3. Thankfully I have been there to catch her.
I tell you what the adventures never end! I just often wonder how some children for the most part are agreeable and others are not. Mine are rarely agreeable and I am afraid that this little brother of their's will be the exact same way. He is full of energy and is on the move constantly.

On the flip side... my hope and prayer is that their stubbornness and determinedness are signs that they will stick to their guns and get things done. Their not being agreeable will come in handy when the crowd goes the wrong way and they decide not to follow.
Our Pastor gave a great message on Mother's Day and what really stood out the most for me was how he encouraged parents to pray for their children that they would come to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. And that they would grow with the desire to love and serve Him. It is not too early to pray hard for them. We are also praying hard this week for Daddy’s safe and imminent return to us on Sunday.

Today he called as he was leaving DC for home (Red Lake Falls) to spend time with family and attend his cousin Tony’s wedding this weekend. We all wish we could be there, but I hope he has a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying time with family without interruptions from us. He also told me about some big wig in Rad Onc at Harvard who has offered him a month long rotation in brachytherapy (you don’t ever want to be treated for this) This is a fabulous opportunity. I was so excited when he told me about it (excited for him not for me and the kiddos who will miss him like crazy) UNTIL he told me it was for the month of September. I asked if he had something else going on that month, he said, “no”, and I asked, “well, what about having a baby”. He never mentioned that to the Harvard guy. Anyhoo, I am now accepting house guests for the whole month of June and September for anyone that would like to enjoy a Texas vacation with the beach, ocean, sand, and surf, (I won’t mention the sweltering humidity and temps) We do have AC, clean sheets and your own bathroom!
