January 2008

We have the biggest sleepy heads at our house. Intresting though, they are only sleepy heads Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays. (The days we have to get up and go to work.) The other days of the week they are bright eyed and bushy tailed in the early morning.
    Wonder why that is?!??

Last night Marit was tucked in by 8:30 but by 10:30 she woke up just crying her heart out. This is very abnormal behaviour for her who is such a good sleeper through the night. Her cry was different too, not a cry to nurse and cuddle, but a scared cry. I went to get her and she just buried her head in my shoulder and cuddled close in bed to me. She waited a good 5 minutes before she was even ready to nurse. And then she would not stop. She just needed to be held and talked to and have her little hair and cheeks and back rubbed. I felt so sad that something had frightened her in the night in her sweet little room. I just hate for my children to be scared in that way. I remember all too well as a child having bad dreams that would wake me in the night. I just pray those dreams away from Haakon and Marit. Only sweet dreams of happy things is what we pray before we go to sleep.

The fevers are gone but the coughs and runny noses remain. Marit sneezed 7 times this morning while Grant changed her diaper. Haakon stayed dry all this week. And we are still ALL going to bed by 8pm each night.

This past weekend I realized what a very small library of movies we have. Haakon watched them all at least 2 times. I don't think the Veggie Tale song will ever leave my head and now that Papa has introduced him to Howdey Doodey he is now requesting Wonder Bread and Hostess Twinkies. How could they advertise like that? But if Howdey Doodey and Buffalo Bob and Clarabelle the clown like them, they must be good.
Monday Grant and Haakon finally decided we should rent a movie. They brought home Underdog. A cute movie about a super hero dog. Now I hear Haakon chiming in every now and then with "give the dog your food" in a low monotone voice. It is cute to hear him giggle and laugh at the funny stunts in the movie. He is really getting the humor and loves to act out what he has seen later as he retells the story.
Marit's vocab is increasing daily but her favorite things to say are "No, no, no!" and "Mine, mine, mine!" She says it to everyone very emphatically. To say Marit's a drama queen would be an understatement. I am wondering if we need check Marit for a tape worm. She eats like it is her job. She is always starving and wanting to eat but never wanting to sit in her high chair. Only the big chair.
We are working on manners. She does say Peeeesssee and thank ooo. We just need to focus a bit more on table manners. The silverware use and napkin use are very good but the food spilling is at an all time high. She tries to help clean the floor with the broom but her attempts usually end with an even bigger mess. At least she is trying! Got to let a girl learn even at the expense of a messier house.

We are so over joyed at the birth of our first cousin/niece. Scarlett Rae is just beautiful. We can hardly wait to meet her. How excited we are for Ryan and Bridget to begin this amazing and crazy journey as parents! I have tons of confidence in them. I know they will be fabulous parents! God has blessed our families so much! We could not be more thankful!!

For the not so happy news. A horrible big ugly nasty bug has entered our house and made everyone extremely sick. The kids are just coming down with it today. I have never seen them this beaten down like the are now. Grant went off to work but is also getting sick. I spent almost 2 days in bed I was so sick. i seem to have some energy today. Good thing if I have two sick little ones to get better. Please pray we are on the mend soon. I hate to see them so sick.

Haakon was so good yesterday. I was so proud of him. It was the biggest blessing ever! We had the best time cuddling and reading books and just enjoying how agreeable he was. I just treasured that day and pray that we will see more like that to come.
Sunday night Grant and Haakon both got haircuts. Haakon' hair has not been this short since he was a baby. Maybe getting it cut was a good thing. The naughty flees could not hang on anymore in his new short hair.

It sure was nice to be home for Christmas. The kids came back home (to TX) with a borrowed suitcase from Nana just so we could take their toys home with us. Thank you everyone for the beautiful gifts. Haakon and Marit loved having 4 days of opening presents! But better then the present were all the hugs and visits and just moments being near our family that I treasured the most.

The kids came bringing colds which they passed on to almost everyone. We are so sorry! Hope you all get better soon.

They also came sporting some of the very worst behaviour on the 2007 record. Now that we have been home they have settled down and are not quite as whining and demanding. Uff da!

My New Year's resolution is to tone down the whine and try to instil good behaviour in these two children we have been blessed with.
I also want Marit to be potty trained by the end of the year. She is so interested in the potty and even has been waking up dry. There is hope!

Haakon and I went to war yesterday and I came out the victor! Which in turn was better for him.
It is a long drawn out story and kinda icky too, so I won't write it all out but I will say it was a huge step. I took the controll and held on. YEAH!!!!!! Praise the Lord for his strength and my good friend Jackie for her support and encouragement as the battle raged.

As far as sweet things go, Haakon has gotten so creative with his story telling and play. It is fun to listen and watch him paint with his words this exciting place and activity that is taking place.
He sure enjoyed the 2 hockey games we were able to see during our visit home. The other day in the kitchen he had his hockey stick and puck and was playing hockey and saying he wanted to be a Sioux Hockey player. Daddy ordered him skates. We will see how he likes the ice.

Marit now more then ever wants to do whatever her brother is doing. She is climbing and jumping on and off everything she can get her little body up on. It is fun to be able to talk to her and she knows exactly what I am talking about. I am starting to understand her so much more too. It is thrilling that she is using words and even doing things for herself. Our baby really is growing up!

This month is an exciting one. Auntie Bridget and Cousin Cara are due with sweet baby girls any day. We are anxiously awaiting the news of their birth.
