Marit is 10 months old today.
Her record in walking is 10 steps in a row so far. She is on the move.
She is at that stage where she is acting less and less like a baby and more like a toddler. Marit loves to express her opinion all the time and makes quite clear her demands. She is a doll.
The other day Monica told me how she announced to the kids it was time to go outside and to come and get their shoes on. Marit made a quick bee-line for the door and stood and banged on it. Did she really understand what was going on? Apparently she did. What else does she know that she isn’t telling me…

Lately Haakon has been so affectionate and comes up and tells me he loves me so much. I know it is his way to find time to cuddle with me. He knows I can’t resist hugging him if he tells me how much he loves me. I feel bad that he does not get picked up and held like he used to and how he sees me holding and carrying Marit more then him. Haakon is getting so big and heavy. He notices it too, that he does not quite fit on my lap the same anymore.
Haakon has also become my new fashion critic. The other morning he announced to me how I looked beautiful in my green dress. A new day, and a new dress later… I walked in to Monica’s to feed Marit and the first thing out of Haakon’s mouth was, “Mommy, your dress does not fit. It is too tight on you. It is too small.” Seriously Haakon??!?!! Yes, he said. He just would not back down. He thought the dress looked bad on me. Never knew a 2 year old would make me question my wardrobe. Monica reassured me that my dress was not tight or too small. But every time I see it hanging in the closet I can’t help but think Haakon will scold me for wearing it.

Tomorrow Marit has her 9 month doctor’s appointment. (Only 1 month late) My guess for weight is 21 pounds.
Afterwards, if she is feeling up for it we are meeting friends at Jumping Jungle. It is a playdate long overdue. Hopefully it will be just the trick to wear out the kids so they can have an early nap.

    Mayhem at Macy's.
This past weekend is the one weekend a year the Texas forgoes it's 8.25% sales tax on clothing. We thought we would take advantage and check out the sales. We walked into Macy's and had not been there more then 6 minutes when Haakon puked up his hot dog he had eaten for supper. He was not sick just a fluke puke but non the less, quite disgusting. Thankfully the spare outfit in the car came in handy. We should have left at that point. A bit of skimming the racks we discovered a few fabulous finds. Just before leaving I suggested we check out the children's section on the second floor. Grant played with the kids while I shopped. Next thing I know I hear Haakon crying and Grant saying my name. All I can say is, I am just thankful to the Lord that Haakon did not loose his right eye in Macy's. He had tripped and fallen into a display of little girls tights and socks on hooks. He has a cut on his lower eye lid. Grant could describe the details so much better, but he said if it had been any closer... well we don't want to think about that. We are just so thankful he is ok. And I think we have had enough of Macy's for the rest of the year.

For happy news, Marit has started to take steps. She took 2 steps on Saturday. She is still pretty hesitant but every now and then she will try a step or two. Our little girl is getting so big.

Since we have been married it seems as though Grant and I are always working on a home project. It has even become our little dates. Lately though, Grant is the one doing most of the projecting while I entertain the kids and try to keep them from playing with the real screwdrivers, climbing the ladders, or brushing up against newly painted walls. This past weekend Grant was putting up the rest of the crown molding in the living room. He was even so ambitious that I found my rubber spatula with the wooden handle glued together. Friday night before I started the dishwasher I noticed our bright red spatula in the dishwasher. I picked it out, removed the wooden handle and returned the red spatula to the dishwasher and shut the door. Somewhere between then and Sunday afternoon, the two became one. When I discovered the glued spatula, I poked my head into the living room to ask Grant if he had happened to glue my spatula, (not like I even thought for a moment that Haakon or Marit had done it.)

He looked at me puzzled, and replied, “Well, wasn’t it broken? I thought I would fix it for you.” I could not help but giggle and give him a hug for fixing it and then explain to him that it was not broken and that is just the way they are. I told him though I would display it and use it proudly. It will now always serve as a great reminder to me of what a wonderful, thoughtful, and hardworking husband I have that would go to the extra mile of fixing something for me (even if it was not in need of being fixed). What a guy!

Marit had quite the day of practicing her balance technique. She acquired 4 new bruises on her face and a fat upper lip. Oh did I feel bad. Anyone know if they make baby sized hockey helmets?

My sweet Haakon came to my bedside this morning at 4. He put his icy hand on my arm and just waited for me to stir and give my attention to him. Poor little guy was only in a diaper and quite chilled. He lost his covers and never got his jammies on before bed. It was stifling hot before bed so understandably Daddy did not think jammies were necessary.
I climbed out of bed and we had a lovely conversation as we hunted down jammies in the dark and filled up his Cars cup with some fresh water. I was just praying the whole time that he truly would let me tuck him back in bed without a fuss. I just could not bear to wake up that early. Thankfully he let me tuck him in tight and kiss him goodnight.

Saturday we hit the beach. It was the first time this year. We drive by it all the time but never get down there much. Daddy had to catch up on work, so Saturday afternoon he dropped the kids and I off at the beach and hoped to work fast and furious so he could join us. It was nearly dark by the time he came to pick us up. Perhaps next time. We had a blast though. The kids had so much fun watching the hermit crabs and sea slugs. They were all over the place. Haakon would not touch them but Marit was more then willing to pick them up. We even had to take a few home with us. We will bring them back this week. But it was fun to have them as pets for a little while. I must say, a puppy or a kitty would have been a lot cuddlier.

Marit is gaining new skills daily. She is waving and saying bye bye.
She is now standing on her own for short periods of time as well. She gets so excited over her gained mobility. Wonder when those steps will come?

Haakon and Marit are so little but all ready getting into tussles with each other. Marit is now fighting back though. She is hitting and pushing and of course screaming loud enough to break glass. I love those moments when they are playing and laughing at each other. Those are the best and make up for the screams.

There is a moment of silence right now with just the humming of the AC going full blast to combat this suffocating heat. My precious children are tucked in for a nap. I have so many choices of possibilities of things to accomplish. Where do I begin? Sew, cookies, put away the mountain of fresh clothes, iron Grant's shirts, hardanger, enjoy a lovely glass of ice cold water before settling in for a nap? naw, scratch that off the list. Can only resort to the nap if the rest of the list is done. Can't afford that type of luxury. It is Monday, the one day I have to set the tone for the whole week. I have to make it count!!!!! Well.... Maybe a short nap wouldn't hurt. :)

Potty training... we are not trained yet. It is still early though right? As long as he is trained before he goes off to school. And the back up plan for that is to just home school for sure. Then we won't ever have to worry about it until it is time for him to get married. My goal is to make sure he is out of diapers before he gets married. I don't think my future daughter-in-law would ever forgive me if she found out the guy she married still wore diapers and pull-ups (depending on his mood)

We have purchased a lovely 3 pack of Diego underwear. Haakon was so excited to wear them. We talked all about being a big boy now that he was wearing underwear. After many times of asking whether or not he had to go potty and him replying NO. He pee peed in his underwear which of course did not absorb like a diaper and ended up absorbing into the carpet. UFF DA!!!!!!

Haakon quickly changed his underwear and got the second pair out. We re-went over the instructions on who gets to wear underwear and what that means and wear you potty etc...

Then Haakon and Daddy ran to the store to get a few items. I sent a pull-up with Grant just in case. Haakon came home dry and we tried the potty but nothing. It wasn't long after that when he came calling how he needed new underwear. UFF DA! This time I grilled him a little more. I tried to make him promise he would not pee in them. He said he would not pee on the potty but would indeed pee in his underwear if given the chance. So I told him he could not wear anything. Well to make this long story not much longer, he pee peed on the chair in the kitchen. I made him clean it up and then we put a diaper on and he ended up putting his last clean pair of underwear on over the diaper. Well, with all my clean up rags and wet undies I had some washing to do.
Remember that pull-up I gave Grant??? You guessed it! It got washed too. He had put it in the pocket of his shorts and I never did check the pockets cause he is always so good at taking everything out. The Lightening McQueen pull-up made it through the wash and drier. It had exploded in the drier and caused little white stuff to get all over the clothes. UFF DA again.

That is it. I have had it when it comes to potty training. I will try again next week. Remember, the goal is before he gets married.

Our sweet daughter still just has the two bottom teeth but uff da, has she been biting. She bites my arms and shoulders when I hold and carry her. I have little bruises all over my arm. Tonight she had bit me and Haakon scolded her. He said, "No, biting my Mommy, Marit. You can just give kisses, no biting." Oh that was so sweet of him the add the kisses line and defend me. I was touched even in the midst of pain.

Allison:  Oh my goodness - what a crazy couple of days! When reading your entry, I was laughing out loud! Too funny!
Cara:  Oh Rebekah, how I loved reading this. Don't worry Marit will be much easier to potty train. I think you're doing a great job and Haakon will get it....eventually. Maybe one tip I would offer you is to be sure that he equates something unpleasant with going in his underoos. Like no treats or his favorite toy until he goes in the potty. Stay cool girl and don't give in. Afterall, you are the best mommy in the world for him and no one can do a better job than you!

It was delightful to be home in MN and see our family. The visit went so fast as always, but we were afforded an extra day and a half because of our flight being cancelled and delayed. With that said, I think it is safe to say we are all sick and tired of airplanes anmd airports. We plane to drive home for Christmas. It couldn't be any worse then flying.

Grant enjoyed his high school reunion and catching up with everyone.

We took back with us precious memories of time spent visiting with everyone. Wish our times together were not so far and few between.

As far as the latest stunts and tricks Haakon and Marit are preforming...
Haakon jumped of his bunk beds. He was standing on the top bunk and jumped to the floor while Marit and I watched in horror. (well Marit thought it was funny) He landed unharmed and thought it was great fun. hmmm, better seperate the beds.

Marit is on the move constantly. She has at least one little bruise on her head at all times. Today she stood on her own a few times.

well this story must end here because Haakon is requesting that his poopy diaper be changed and Marit is about to dump all of Grant research articles all over the floor. Next entry shall include r attmepts on potty training.
