We are all driving home from work Thursday evening, not yet off the island, and Haakon sniffs and announces that something stinks! His face is so often expressive, that the way he looked and how he said it just cracked me up. I asked him if he went poo poo in his diaper and he said NO! A moment passed and then Haakon said it still stinks, Daddy, did you poo poo? Grant said no, and took the opportunity to tell him the difference between big boys and baby boys and how big boys don't wear diapers etc.
Haakon was determined to be called a big boy. They went back and forth. yes - no - yes - no Finally Haakon relinquished and said, so If I poo poo on the potty I am a big boy and get a HUMMER? Yes Haakon Yes!
What I would like to say is that we got home and Haakon has been potty trained ever since. But that would not be the case. He did however pee pee on the potty twice this weekend. It's a start.
He can go into the bathroom and wash his own hands and face, turn off and on the light and hang the towel back up on the towel bar all by himself. :)
Marit's new skill is climbing the stairs. We are now once again locking the gates both upstairs and down. Marit also loves to eat big people food. Her new favorite is melon and she adores creeps with whipped cream.
It is so sweet; lately Haakon has been asking Marit to play cars with him. They both stand next to the train table and push the cars around. The sweet moment of my children playing nice together is just that, a moment and then it is back to someone crying, either Marit is sad cause Haakon knocked her over cause she got in his way or Haakon is sad because Marit is chewing on one of his cars. Each time they do this "playing together" routine though, the moment lasts longer and longer. Who knows, someday it may just be long enough for me to complete a small task with out refereeing.

When I woke Haakon up this morning he told me about the "BIG MOWER" that was next to his car. "What car?" I asked. He said, "Lightening McQueen". Then he told me in a low whisper that there was a man on the mower. I asked him if he was nice and Haakon said no. He said he was dirty. I think that was the first time Haakon has ever woke up and described his dream to me.
Marit has discovered the fun of pushing toys and walking behind. She has not mastered this new skill but to her it is so much fun.Comments:Add a comment:

Oh did I get a chuckle this morning! We are in Haakon's room picking up his toys after their bath this morning. Haakon says to me,"Give me a break mom, give me a break." with all the sarcasm that goes with it. I am not even sure where he has heard that. We giggled the rest of the time as we picked up the mountain of toys.
I think Haakon is border line obsessed with the movie Cars. He requests to watch it EVERYDAY. Most of the time we wants to watch it more then once. We are very close to being able to recite the movie from memory. I need to fuel this concentration into even more productive and important things like, memorizing Bible verses or his address and phone numbers. But I will not complain because if he will sit for 15 to 20 minutes to watch a part of the movie while I get something done without having it destroyed the very next minute... why that is just like a little piece of heaven on earth!

Auntie Sarah is engaged! Auntie Bridget is having a baby! Lots of fun and exciting news. Our new cousin is due to arrive in the middle of January. Auntie Sarah is to be Mrs. Onstad the middle of April. It was pretty cute when we told Haakon about all the news. I often wonder how much of it he really understands though. When we said that Pete wants to marry Sarah, Haakon said "NO, he can't". Then I explained more about weddings and getting married to him and we talked about that Pete would be his new uncle. Haakon did not say much about it but several hours later he out of the blue he told me that it is ok if Pete would be his uncle and if he marries Sarah. It was precious the way he said it so seriously and like he had thought it over for quite a while before deciding that it would be ok with him.
Haakon loves new babies and now and then asks for another sister himself, so he thought it was great that Auntie Bridget and Uncle Ryan had a baby too.
We can't wait!!!
Tuesday after work we met the Bonillas family at the Dinosaurs Alive exhibit at the Moody Gardens on the Island. The boys seemed to really enjoy the dinosaurs that moved and see the fog roll over the landscape they had set up. Marit got a little scared though as you can see by some of the pictures. It was defiantly a fun activity to take them too.
We skipped on the fireworks this year. Too much rain this week. Tuesday evening was our nicest evening yet. Instead we watched fireworks on TV. Not quite the same but Haakon loved it and oohhed and aaahhed over them all and all the pretty colors.
Marit is just go go go these days. She is crawling all over and pulling her self up on everything. The last couple days she is standing and then letting go. She just wants to be walking on her own in the worst way ever. I don't know if I am ready for that yet!
Oh have we ever got to be so careful about things that fall on the floor or the toys being too small. She tests almost everything in her mouth first. With 2 new teeth she just wants to chew.
I get such a kick out of seeing her pull herself up to the train table and play with Haakon and his cars.
This past weekend we had the pleasure of having Nial and Andrea Moe stay with us on their way to their Honeymoon destination. They are on a fabulous cruise right now and will be returning on Sunday. It was fun to have them stay with us. Haakon has been talking about them all week especially when he plays with his new remote controlled car they brought him. (thank you guys)
We just returned from a fun play date at Ethan and Olivia's house. It was so much fun to meet 8 week old Olivia. She is so beautiful and too sweet. Both kids are sound asleep. I am about as overjoyed as a mother could be! This rarely ever happens to have them both sleeping at the same time. I am going to zoom like crazy and get some things accomplished before they wake up. (after I do a celebration dance in the living room and treat myself to a cookie)Comments:Add a comment:
