Marit is 7 months old today! Friday we have her "6 month" check up. Guess it will be a 7 month checkup instead.
A list of her latest and greatest accomplishments:
- sitting up
- rolling over
- scooting around like crazy
- singing (at least trying to)
- grabbing everything in sight and putting it in her mouth
- eating food
We just returned from our long awaited trip to Minnesota on Monday evening. It was so good to be home and spend time with our family and even see some friends!! It went by way to fast though!
We took back many wonderful memories and did not take nearly enough pictures. (perhaps tonight I can post them) Haakon and Marit loved all the attention and play time they got. They slept great each night and played hard all day long. The only down side was that Haakon got sick and was not quite himself for a couple days. He must have had a self contained bug because the rest of us seemed to have narrowly escaped. Our next trip home probably won't be till Christmas time. Perhaps we will need that much time to muster up the energy to get back on an airplane again with our two precious children. We had a perfectly scheduled naptime flight planed. Grant worked so hard keeping Haakon awake until we boarded the plane. We get our bags checked and 2 car seats without too much drama. Then it is time to go through security. Thankfully they don't search us. We dump out their sippy cups and make sure all little items such as hand lotion and lip gloss are in the little zip lock baggies. Haakon FREAKS out when we tell him we have to take his shoes off. He is screaming at the top of his lungs confused and upset as to why we are making him get out of the umbrella stroller and remove his shoes and walk through this strange thing called a metal detector. It didn't make it any better when the lady (trying to make him smile) tells him that crying boys are not allowed on airplanes. That just made our tired boy scream all the louder in frustration. Grant walks through first and waves his new Lightening McQueen sandals at him to coax the stalled screaming boy through. At least this time I remember that I don't have to remove Marit from the Baby Bjorn as I walk through. We quickly put the sandals back on and stick him in the stroller and zoom off to get a bite to eat before we board the now food with a charge plane. Not even the pizza could perk up this Haakon. His bites either had not enough cheese or the crust was too tough. Uff da, what does it take to get a good slice of pizza around here. Haakon spots a Ben & Jerry's and requests ice cream. I beg Grant to get some. We are paying the price for not letting him sleep. We get a second cup and put ice cream and a spoon in it and hand it to Haakon just praying that it is perfect enough to make him happy! Thankfully it is. FINALLY!!! He is happy. Marit is just as happy getting little bites of ice cream too. She loves the cold creamy concoction on her little tongue and gums.
As we head to our gate we discuss our seats that don't seem to line up. We are not sitting together and that could be a problem. The lady at the counter said she would see what she could do. When we finally boarded the plane she suggests asking the fellow and his daughter if they would mind switching so we could sit together. We did do just that. Grant asked so nicely. They moved across the isle but not without a grimace. I think perhaps in the end he did not regret moving, and perhaps wished he could have moved even further away from our sweet little family. It took quite sometime before Haakon & Marit were settled and relaxed. Overly tired children are very hard to calm down. Once both of the kids were asleep we breathed a sigh of relief and I looked at Grant and said thank you for not letting me fly alone.
Now it is back to the humidity and heat. We sure enjoyed all the cool crisp air we got while we were home. Next time we come home I will remember to dig up the warm clothes.
Comments:Grandma BARB: You never know how many parents you inspired by being understanding and tactful in handling two unhappy children in the plane. Instead of focusing on the child, I always look at how the parents are handling the situation. Good parents are always endearing because most people know that sometimes children don't act like adults! I hope that all the effort will not detour you from another trip to Minnesota. It was one of the best times I have ever had with all my children, their spouses, and my two grandchildren home at once. It couldn't be better for me, having the house full to the brim with people I love. Everyone helped make Drew and Lora's graduation so grand. My heart was full of pride as each spent time with Grandpa Seeger and Gramdma. They just can't believe how busy they are in the small town of Red Lake Falls. I've had a permanent smile on my face for a week. And as one lady friend said,Lauralee: Ohh thankyou for sharing..altho you have put a lil fear in me of what kids can be like some times LOL...You are an amazing mom and Grant is an amazing dad!!! I am so proud of you two!Add a comment:

As Mother's Day approaches it makes me ponder how wonderful it is to be a mom. I am the happiest I have ever been. Even when both children are crying and sitting on my lap at the exact same time, or when I walk around in clothes with spit up on them. I just couldn't be happier and feel more blessed and thankful to the Lord for my precious children He has blessed me with. It also makes me so thankful and appreciative for MY MOM and my Grant's Mom! Right now in my stage of motherhood I get to enjoy the diapers, runny noses, giggles, cuddles, nursing, baby and toddler language, new discoveries, etc. all the things that are baby and toddler.
The other day Haakon and I and Marit were perched on the couch taking some well needed down time. A commercial came on for Macy’s advertising Mother’s Day and all the perfect gifts they had for Mothers. I noticed Haakon was staring and concentrating very hard on what was being presented on the commercial. I asked him if he knew what Mother’s Day was all about. He did not answer but just looked at me hard. I told him Mother’s Day is an extra special day when you give your Mommy lots of hugs and kisses and tell her you love her all day long. Then I threw in that sometimes people like to give a gift to the Mother on Mother’s Day.
He then moved closer to me gave me a big hug and kiss and said “Mommy, I love you.” Of course I just melted. He then paused and said he wanted to get me a present too. I smiled and asked him what he wanted to get me. He announced without hesitation, “A big brown HUMMER.” I just giggled, and told him what a wonderful idea that was! He also asked if he could drive it. I tell you, this boy and HUMMERS! That was all I needed for Mother’s Day. That moment was the sweetest gift ever. Something that couldn’t be wrapped in paper but forever saved and treasured in my heart!
Happy Mother’s Day to all you wonderful fabulous and beautiful Moms!
Comments:Milissa: Rebekah, I couldn't have said that any better myself. It's truly a miracle to be so blesses with children. I could have never in my wildest dreams ever thought that I could feel this happy and fulfilled. Well put. Happy (belated) Mother's Day!Lauralee: I agree so much with the above comment!! I love this story!! Haakon is such a sweetheart and I know he gets that from his two wonderful parents! I hope you had a very special day!!Mary Thayer: I am in tears. You are so right and your beautiful, joyous perspective on motherhood is an example to me. I have learned so much from you just reading your journals and looking at your pictures on this site. I love that when Haakon writes on the wall with crayon or dumps cereal everywhere, you take a picture. You chuckle at your silly boy and act as though it is a rite of passage in his childhood. I want to thank you Rebekah for your sweet mothering spirit that truly inspires ME to be a better mom. I hope you have a wonderful day FULL of hugs and kisses.Add a comment:

• This past Saturday Grant and I went on a date. Our first date in a year and a half. (without children)
Grant had received Houston Symphony tickets about a month and a half ago. So plenty of time to line up a babysitter. (or so I thought)
Our neighbor girl Tara offered to baby-sit for us in exchange for me doing her hair and makeup at 6:00am on a Saturday morning before she had her senior pictures taken. Also our sweet neighbor Lorri also offered to watch the kids sometime so we could go out. Called Tara on Friday to confirm that she still could baby-sit. She reassured me she could. Saturday morning come 10:30 there was a knock at the door. Tara was wondering if I could find another babysitter because her and her mom had something they needed to do before graduation next week. Sure no problem I told her. I close the door... Grant, we don't have a babysitter.
Lorri saved the day and said they would love to baby-sit. The only plans they had was Andrew's little league baseball game and they said they would be happy to take the kids with. That meant we would actually have time to enjoy dessert and coffee before the concert. It was a lovely time, a beautiful concert listening to Wanger's best. I never realized that the Wedding March actually had words and not the "Here comes the bride...".
But a 2 hour symphony is just an hour too long when you have a 6 month old at home who you know wants to nurse in the worst way. When we arrived home 6 hours after we said "see you later" to our sweet children and even sweeter neighbors, we found both children sound a sleep and Lorri, Andrew, & Justin, looking so tired and exhausted. Oh I felt so bad, but they said it was just fine and they would be happy to do it again. Yesterday I got the dirt from Justin and Andrew who fesses up that the first 3 hours went great but, (in their words) Marit screamed a lot. My poor neighbors!!!
Note to self, in another year and a half when we plan another date we will have to schedule something for less then 3 hours.
Yesterday we filled up the sandbox with water and made it a pool. Haakon loves water. He can't control himself, as soon as his body hits water he splashes and dumps and throws and kicks water everywhere. He just has too. Marit tried playing with him and she just got fed up with all the water in her eyes. Diego even thought Haakon was a little crazy when it came to splashing. They had a great time taking water from the pool to buckets and then dumping them on their heads.
Last night while we were making supper. Marit was up on the counter sitting in her Bumbo seat and Haakon pulled up a chair to join us. He spotted Daddy's harmonica that he received as a party favor from an oncologist farewell party.
Haakon began to play and quite well I thought. Marit was so enjoying it to that she was trying to sing while Haakon played. She was even singing the notes he played. Wow, how thrilling it would be if my kids had some musical talent. They wouldn't have gotten it from me, that is for sure. Daddy, and all their auntie's, uncle, and cousins!

My little girl is 6 months already. Where has the time gone? How did the past 6 months fly by so incredibly fast?
Marit is a very curious little girl. She wants to know what is going on and how things work. She loves cell phones but wants to hear someone talking on it. She cries if we do not give her what she wants. She is not easily distracted by another object. When she gets her heart set on something, it breaks if she can not have it. Can you just about imagine how that will come into play when she is older? I can see it all now! Marit is just now starting to roll over. She can scoot herself around when she is on the floor. Unfortunately she does not spend a ton of time on the floor cause her sweet playful brother Haakon loves to sit, stand, and roll on top of her any chance he gets.
Ala lalal ala la la - is her new favorite thing to say. She loves to have us repeat it back to her. Reflecting on the past six months and how much she has grown and changed and all the joy she has brought to our family makes me so appreciative and thankful to the Lord for the special gift that she is. Life is so precious and often so brief. This past weekend we heard the saddest news. Auntie Lisa and Uncle Saul had a miscarriage. Their sweet little "Billy" was about 10 1/2 weeks along. We all were so greatly anticipating this new little one in our family. Our hearts are broken and ache for Lisa and Saul. It is comforting to imagine how Great-Grandpa Charles Moe is loving to cuddle and hold this little baby in heaven. Please keep Lisa and Saul in your prayers.
