March 2007

We are soooo excited!!!!! Last night Grant's sister Lisa called to tell us that she and Saul are expecting a BABY!!!!!!! YEAH! Haakon and Marit will have a cousin!!! Haakon is very excited about that. It was kinda cute, after Grant came back down stairs from tucking Haakon in, he sat down on the couch next to Marit and I while she was nursing and then it seemed like all of a sudden we both paused... looked at each other and said, "We are going to be an uncle and auntie"! It was a fun moment. To say the least we are so thrilled and happy for Saul and Lisa and pray that everything goes well with the pregnancy and that this baby is born healthy and strong. This new addition to the family should be arriving mid-November.

Each time we get buckled into the car, Haakon tells me of all the wonderful things he hopes to see on our drive. Dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, tractors, dozers, cement trucks, semis, and Hummers usually are at the top of the list. Each time we see one or more of these big wheeled vehicles he is as excited as can be. He points it out and repeats the name at least 3 times, (more if I don't confer with him and repeat it back). He loves to tell me how he wishes he could drive one. (Especially Hummers and Dump Trucks.) I have noticed myself take an interest in the vehicles that travel the same stretch of roads I am on and start to daydream the same thing. I seem to lean more towards the SUVs and think how nice more space would be and such now that we have 2 little ones. BUT, this morning as I was reaching in the back seat while NOT taking my eyes off the road for even a second to pick up the Bob the Builder water bottle Haakon had accidentally dropped and needed so desperately... I thought to myself, 'you know, if I had a bigger car I would never be able to rescue dropped toys, water bottles, NUKS, etc.' It was at that moment that I became quite content and thankful for our '01 Ols Intrigue and it's 2 new tires in the front. It has served us well.

Grandma Seeger:  As we dream about a new life joining our family and the joy that Lisa and Saul have in sharing in creation, I just have to be so thankful for all the great moms and dads I have met throughout the years in La Leche League, the Couple to Couple League, and at Red Lake Falls both at church and in the community. To have children that value their role as parents and want children in their lives is just so rewarding for Dick and I. I could not be a prouder parent and Grandparent because our children

Perplexity is plaguing me. Why would a 2 year old BOY be so concerned about what he wears?!?!?!
My strategy of trying to dress him before he fully wakes up used to work. His diaper and clothes would be on before he had a chance to know what had happened. Now as soon as I pop in his room he is exclaiming he wants to wear camo. Is there a new fashion trend of camo for toddlers? Is it like the new it thing to wear? He has 3 pair of camo shorts and 2 camo pants. All were dirty. He finally settled on his flannel golf bag pants. He then says he has to wear his truck shirt. (they were dirty as well) He then insisted on a baseball shirt. You would think that I never wash clothes! But in fact he has a closet full of clean clothes. It is just that all the camo and truck shirts are dirty. Uff da.
On the other end of baby/toddler fashion...I am planning to start making Marit's Easter dress soon. My only concern is that the fabric is not one bit pastel! I have been trying to research if it is a rule somewhere that all little girls must wear pastel Easter dresses. I don't want to commit an Easter dress crime by any means.

Marit has another Doctor Appointment this Monday. We have diagnosed her with Torticollis. (twisted neck) She is always leaning her head to the right. We hope and pray that all we need to do to fix this is a little physical therapy. Stretching her neck and being conscious of how we hold her so we can get her straightened out.
Otherwise she is developing beautifully. She is getting stronger and starting to sit on her own. What a big girl!!

Grandma BARB:  I remember Easter dresses with my sisters, Teryl and Marilyn. We were the 3 oldest girls and we often had look-a-like dresses, hats, and white gloves. We sometimes even got new shoes. It was so much fun to go to church all dressed up and it was usually cool and the gloves were needed. When my two brothers were born, I remember Easter hunts for cowboy hats filled with candy. Then the play was cowboys and indians and much louder with cap guns. I really liked cap guns too. One of my Easter dresses had rows of ruffles and I remember MOM ironing each layer. I wanted to wear that dress everyday. I don't know how she managed with so many children younger than I that wanted her attention. I did love to take care of my younger siblings and as the older girls grew we did learn to help in the kitchen and do chores.
At Red Lake Falls we had massive Easter Egg Hunts with lots of rules, always outside if at all possible. I have loads of pictures of the race to collect eggs and candy. Grant was always terrific at getting the most. Love, MOM
Shana:  I don't think there is a pastel rule--I remember some Easters where our dresses weren't pastel--or even dresses for that matter! I'm sure that whatever you make for her will be super cute!

Marit had 4 shots yesterday. Poor little thing. This time we massaged her legs so they were not so stiff and gave her a bit of tylonol. We did a lot of cuddling and nursing all afternoon and evening. The doctor did say that she had fluid in both ears. Uff da. We hope and pray it goes away soon. The pediatrician also said not to worry about starting her on any foods. She is growing plenty good and we can wait till 6 months. One surprising discovery is that Marit weighs more and is taller then Haakon was at 4 months. Perhaps it is because Marit does not spit up as much as Haakon did. Marit is still in the 90th percentile for weight and the 80th for height. She is now too heavy for me to cart her around in her car seat. As of this week I just leave it in the car and take her out.

She had a good appointment it was actually a pleasant visit. I owe that all to Jackie! She offered to watch Haakon while we went to the Dr. Haakon of course had a marvelous time playing with his good friend Diego. This morning he wanted to go back and play.

Daddy had a rough day which began with his 4 hour inservice exam. We keep telling him he probably did better then he thinks. It was sure nice to have him home in the afternoon. He took advantage of the beautiful day and washed both cars. Marit sat outside for awhile to watch. She enjoys being outside like most little ones.

Marit, like her brother, turns 4 months old and has decided she does not like her NUK (pacifier) anymore. Up until this point her NUK never left our sight. We must have close to a dozen of them scattered around the house and in the diaper bag, purse, car seat, etc. That was the one thing we did not leave home without. Now, it does no good. She does not want it. This is not a totally bad thing. At least I will never have to worry about her being 5 and still wanting a NUK.
Instead our precious little daughter wants to be held and carried around at all times. I of course love hugging and snuggling with her. We enjoy every moment of that. It is just the moments that I must put her down to do something that requires both hands. She is VERY upset to say the least. Uff da can she get mad. So for now I do everything very hastily. Saturday Grant opened a cupboard and things fell out. He asked me if I was booby trapping the place. All I have time for is a quick toss and shut, what happens next is a risk I am willing to take. So I told him to just beware.
Monica answered the door today with Marit in tough when I came over lunch to feed her. I asked sheepishly if she had been demanding to be held today. She replied with an OH YES!
Perhaps Marit is a bit high maintenance and some may call her spoiled. But at this young age, you can't spoil them in a bad way. Soon enough she will be crawling and walking everywhere on her own and I will have to catch her to hold her.

Dana:  She doesn't want to be put down because she loves her mommy so much... she just can't get close enough. You keep holding here Rebekah- put her down only when you must!!! XXOO

Marit is now 4 months old!! At 4 months she is happy, giggly, smiley, loves to nurse, talk, take baths, play with her brother, sit up when being held, stand on her legs with help, play peek-a-boo, and patty cake. She enjoys watching the Backyardigans, and listening to music. She is less dependant on the NUK and has started to play more with little toys and blankies.

And a Happy Birthday to Great-Grandma Betty! We hope her birthDAYS are special! She gets 2 days since her birthday is the 29th.

For the past 2 weeks Haakon mentions almost daily that he wants another sister. The first time he said that I questioned him whether he wanted a different sister, but he replied he wanted 2 sisters. Uff da! I never expected that one.
The second time he brought it up, he clarified right away that he wanted 2 sisters. How sweet is that. Told him he better pray and ask God to send him another baby sister.
Last night I had a weird dream. We found a baby, puppy, and a kitty under our carpet that the previous owner of the house apparently forgot. I was so surprised to find them because I was expecting the lumps under the carpet to be a lizard. Then I was happy cause Haakon had his other baby sister. Uff da, I am having crazy dreams like I did when I was prego. Hope this isn't a sign.
