    Another lesson learned:
Never take your child shopping with you for your child's friend's birthday party.

Haakon saw, and fell in love with a toy at Target. A Hummer H2 pulling a trailer with a construction vehicle with a backhoe on it. Can they make anything more wonderful for him???? Yes, it makes sound to boot! I let him hold it and explained we were shopping for Nicholas and not buying toys for him. I decided to let him carry it to the checkout reminding him the whole time that we were not buying it. I know now that he was just hoping some how the lady at the check out would scan it and stick it in our shopping bag and he would be non the happier.
Unfortunately for Haakon (and Marit and I) Haakon's wish did not come true. I discreetly told the cashier that we would not be purchasing that one and she winked and set it aside and then begin to ask Haakon questions about his cute baby sister. We can not fool this kid! He is too smart. He knew exactly what she was trying to do. To make the long story short. He cried about this toy for 3 hours. I even got him distracted for awhile but then it all came back. A part of me wanted to jump back in the car and go back to the store and buy the hummer construction vehicle duo and make him stop crying. But I knew I had to win this one. Yeah for Mommy! Praise the Lord!

The weekend started out shaky with Haakon throwing up 3 times Friday morning. We ended up canceling all our play dates for the day. It was a cloudy but warm Friday and after lunch we decided to go for a walk. We all needed a little fresh (humid) air. We headed on our usual route towards the elementary school. This is Haakon's favorite route because there is a greater chance to see lots of dump trucks go by. (lots of new houses coming up in the neighboring subdivision)
We got to the elementary school and I started to turn the stroller back towards home, Haakon protested and wanted to press on! Marit was loving the walk as well and almost drifting off to sleep. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to go a little further. Little further down, it was time to head home, we turn the stroller around to find the wind in our face and the start of rain. Marit is covered and sound asleep. Haakon is exposed and not sure what to think. I put a blanket over his head and he peaks through with a look of Mom, get us out of the rain. We scamper down the side walk as fast as this train I am pushing can go. Uff da I am out of shape. Better start working out more like Sarah. We are almost to our corner to turn towards home when a van stops and asks if we would like a ride. It appears to be a nice man and lady, and how sweet of them to want to help a mom with two little ones out in the rain. I graciously thank them but refuse, saying our house is just around the corner. I knew that by the time we all got loaded in the van, we would be home already. Besides, I did not know who they were and I am not about to trust just anyone here.
Once we pulled into the driveway the rain stopped. How ironic!
Haakon not too happy about being wet and said he wanted to go to bed. The bibbers and blanket kept his beloved football shirt from Uncle Saul and Auntie Lisa dry. So off to bed he went. With Marit still asleep I snatcher her up and tucked her in with me and we all settled in for a wonderful, glorious, 3 hour nap!!!!!!!! The rain was worth it!!!!!!
That evening we were all refreshed to meet Daddy downtown and go to the Aeros hockey game. Both the kids loved it. It was a good end to our Friday.

The rest of the weekend was nice with beautiful sunny days and a visit from Jenny Dale, going to church, playing outside, and watching the end of the Oscars with Marit. (we had our own little party and got dressed up)

    Poor Haakon
Yesterday evening he fell off the counter. - Bad Mommy for letting him sit up there in the first place, but he really is always so careful.

Last night he woke at 3am, 4am, and then at 4:30 before I gave up tucking him in and just let him sleep with us. He really did not fall back to sleep though till closer to 5:30. Then I had to wake him up by 6:30.

Haakon exclaims to me on the way to Monica's this morning, "Mommy, I am tired". "Me too Haakon, mee too" was my reply.

We wallk in the door at Monica's and Steven (2yrs) was there with a smile to greet Haakon with a push. By the way, Haakon has never said this but by the look he gives me and Stevie... he is so annoyed by him and will often push him back. Haakon is bigger then Stevie so Stevie falls down while Haakon still stand if he gets pushed. Monica tries hard to get the boys to use their words. But like the saying goes, "Actions speak louder then words". And oh my goodness, 2 year olds like to be heard!!!

Upon arriving for Marit's lunch time feeding at Monica's I find a still very tired Haakon. While they ate their lunch Haakon was barking off orders at Conner and Stevie, telling them to sit down and eat. He had no patience for nonsense today. I also got the news that Haakon and Conner had been dousing it out a lot today and Haakon got bit real hard on the hand from Conner. The teeth marks were still visable.

I tucked him in before I left and just pray he has a wonderful nap and wakes up happy. Then perhaps he will be happy this evening too. Tonight we will avoid the counter tops at supper time in hopes to escape the owies.

Marit on the other hand is happy and smiley today. She loves all the attention the boys give her. She insists on sitting up so she can see them play and wants desperately to join in on all the action. She is starting to stand and hold herself up. Haakon at this age was holding our hands and walking on the floor. When I look back on that I just marvel at that picture that Grandma Barb took of the three of us at the ocean just before he turned 4 months old and was walking on the sand.

This friday night we hope to take in a hockey game. It is the one thing that Haakon will sit and watch. A great family outing. I can't wait!

This weekend and yesterday Haakon helped me make valentine cookies. He gets so excited and anxious and does not quite understand the whole process and that you can't re-cut out a cookie without destroying its shape. Also, unless you are making Thumb Print cookies, don't stick your fingers in the dough. His favorite part was testing the cookies. Amazingly enough we got lots made and not a single pan burned and there are actually some in the freezer.

Marit sure is toughening up. Haakon's loving is not making her cry as much as it used to. She loves watching Haakon and he sure can get her to smile and giggle. Marit always wants in on the action. I find that I carry her around the house a lot.

We have had a few diaper issues in our house the last couple days. Saturday morning we had to drop the intrigue off to have the brakes fixed. So in the car we all went right after crawling out of bed (even before diapers being changed). Once we arrived home from our short outing I started making breakfast while Marit had fallen asleep in her seat. We had our breakfast, cleaned the kitchen and soon after Marit awoke. Immediately taking her from her seat to change her diaper. Immediately I realized I was too late. She was soaked! Her car seat soaked as well. 1st lesson learned: In the morning do not proceed to do a thing until diapers are changed!
Well it was bath time for this little girl. Starting the water in the tub, Haakon comes running into our bathroom announcing he wants in the tub too and that he had a messy diaper. Well, I was not in a position to attend to him that instant, I continued to undress Marit and asked Haakon to please wait until I was ready to put Marit in her tub and then I would change his diaper. The next thing I knew (2 seconds later) Haakon had removed his pants and diaper and was sitting on the carpet!!!!!!!! Yucky! Poopy carpet!!!! With my screams of horror Grant ran to the bathroom to help! 2nd lesson learned: never buy a house with carpet in the bathroom or take the carpet out! We narrowly survived the wet stinky diapers and you can about imagine how shining and sparkly and good smelling our bathroom was after a complete run down of scrubbing. The kids too!!!
We all took a long nap and almost missed the parade!

The Fire Truck parade in Galveston on Saturday was fun. Haakon was in ahh of all the fire trucks. He seemed to really enjoy the parade until the last truck went by and threw beads at him and hit him right in the nose. (and we were standing far back to avoid the flinging beads and the crazy bead snatchers.)
Marit looked at us so perplexed as to why we were at a place with such alarming sounds. Perhaps when she is older she will like fire truck parades too.

2nd Diaper story - So I came to the realization how important and possibly why bib overalls were made for little boys to wear. Haakon has gotten quite good at removing his shorts/pants and now even his diaper. Yesterday I found him naked on the couch. I quickly redressed him and told him he must keep his pants on. We went through this whole process about 4 times, maybe more and I went to his closet, found some bibbers and forced them on. He was MAD! He said he had to touch his p e n i s. Uff da! I was horrified. Called Grant and told him he must deal with this. Never had brothers no clue what to think or do. Anyone experience this? For now my solution is the bibbers, just hope he does not figure out how to unbuckle them anytime soon!!! Plan B is duck tape.

It is quite in the house except for the sound of Marit's swing. We had a nice day. It is lovely though having just a touch of quietness with no worries about who needs what and keeping everyone safe. It is wonderful, every minute of it!

Marit has had a tough week with daycare. She is great in the mornings but come afternoon she is not at happy girl. Monica does everything she can think of besides standing on her head to calm her down. Good thing I only work part time. Hopefully we can figure something out. She is stubborn and wants what she wants when she wants it. I don't blame her one bit! Haakon sleeps through her fusses but the other boys have a hard time sleeping and probably make their parents suffer in the evening by having sleep deprived children.
This week she did hit a new milestone. She is now having messy diapers every other day instead of twice a week. Hopefully this will continue and solve her colic. Never got excited about bodily functions till I became a Mommy.

Haakon and Marit are interacting so much more. It is just a joy and delight to see them make each other smile. I think they are happy to have a sibling. Haakon is working so hard at being such a good helper. I so appreciate it when he wants to put things away or cheer up Marit. The last two nights I have gotten to tuck Haakon in. Daddy has been busy up at St. Joe's in H town. We can't till he can be back to working on the island. Haakon sure misses it when Daddy can't be home to tuck him in.

I would love nothing more then to close my eyes and go to sleep. Big day tomorrow with a parade of fire trucks. We are meeting the Bonillas family in Galveston to see the fire trucks. The boys will be so excited, I am guessing we won't hear anything but fire trucks for at least a week!
But instead of going to bed I am going to muster up the energy to pick up the living room and tuck away any dishes in the dishwasher (best friend in the kitchen) and then I might sleep all the better knowing the house is not a disaster!

Thank you to all who commented on the fabric choices! I so appreciate your thoughts! We have decided to go with the turque and brown piece (c). Now it is just a matter of getting the fabric ordered and all sewed up! Anyone made Roman Blinds before? Love to all and thank you for all your sweet words!
