Haakon & Daddy did a great job making me feel special on my birthday. Haakon started off the day sleeping in till 8:00am. That is an unheard of time! It was lovely!
We had a fun day playing together and running a couple errands and then when Daddy got home he surprised us with a birthday cake and we went out to dinner. To our delight, it was very enjoyable. Haakon was good and it helped that we brought some toys to entertain him for a bit. We are learning and he is teaching us what we need to do when we go out and about!
Afterwards we went for a walk on the boardwalk and played in the water fountains.

We had such a nice play day on Thursday at Ryan’s house. Barb made lunch for all of us too. It was just too precious to see all 4 of the boys gathered around the table in the kitchen. They sat there and ate their lunch. We just marveled at the site. Guess all that play made them very hungry little boys.

The weekend brought lots of rain and productive projects at home. We made curtains for the baby sister’s room with adorable fabric that Granmama Vickie sent us!
Haakon thought they were quite cute too. He would really love it if I showed him how to sew. He sits up in the chair and pushes and pulls and turns anything that could possibly move. I told him he needs to grow a little bit first because right now he cannot reach the peddle on the floor. Besides that, needles are sharp!

Sunday before church we gathered on the back patio in the already sweltering heat and humidity to cut Haakon and Daddy’s hair.
First it was Haakon who sat on Daddy’s lap. It was not long after I started the snipping and clipping and the beautiful strawberry blonde locks began to fall that Haakon was restless and wanted down. So down he went to play with bubbles wearing only but his diaper and the fallen hair on his sweaty little arms and tummy. Daddy’s hair cut was almost just as quick cause little Haakon did not like the feel of hair on his skin that would not brush off. He was insisting we go inside! So off to the showers they went to try and clean off all that hair and sweat. To Haakon’s dismay there were just a few more strands I had to snip after he emerged from the shower.
Then it was off to church with my well groomed boys. On our way I turned and looked back at Haakon only to see that he looked more like a big boy and even less like a baby with the shorter hair. Then for a moment I regretted cutting his beautiful hair.

Why do these little ones grow so fast? One moment I am so anxious for him to master a skill and the next I just wish for my cooing baby again. How blessed we are to share in this experience of watching our child grow and learn. Each day we pray we can be the best parents possible and guide and nurture his growth and development. Only with God’s help can we ever accomplish this. What a true joy it really is!!

Haakon went a whole day without a "booboo" (nursing). This is monumental! I am not saying he is weaned but this is a step in the right direction, so his little sister will have a chance at nursing too. I did not realize that this had happened until this morning he asked about a booboo and I said we better save them for your sister and then he said "I eat" so we went down stairs and got a bit of breakfast before running out the door to work.

Haakon had quite the spill Saturday afternoon, which left him with a cut lip and a very bruised chin. We are just so thankful that he did not split his chin open and did not bite through his lip.
We did not see it happen. I feel so bad cause I was right there in the kitchen with him but had my back turned for a second and BAM... he hit the floor with a blood curdling scream.
What we assume happened and from what Haakon said, he decided to stand on his Thomas the Train and it went out from under him and he fell. No idea why he did it. He was sitting on it one second and the next second he was on the floor.
I suppose it won't be his last but I sure hope it is. I hate to see him in pain. So glad Daddy was there to fix him up and assess that he would be all right.

Today Haakon is 20 months old. Wow, did those months fly by or what!?! In 4 short months my first born son will be 2. One day I will look back on this entry and say, well now he is 16 with a driver’s license. Uff da!
Less then 3 months and Haakon's sister will be here. Lots of growth and changes in the very near future.
We so enjoy seeing and hearing his thoughts and ideas on things. I just marvel at how he figures things out. We did not have to tell him, he just knows. He is starting to say his name now. He does not pronounce is K or C sounds very well yet so his name sounds more like Haa onn.
But it is still cute to hear him announce at dinner everyone's water (wa wa) Haa onn's wa wa, Momma's wa wa, Dadya's wa wa. He likes to say Dadya instead of Daddy.
We have come farther in eating our veggies as well. He will now eat broccoli, corn (on or off the cob), peas, & green beans. We are so thrilled. We don't want him to grow up hating his vegetables and missing out on all the lush flavor and color they add to a meal. We also don't want his future wife to have to try and sneak cauliflower in his mashed potatoes. Like one of the residents just discovered his wife had been doing since they had been married. Needless to say he was not pleased.
Our next venture will be fruit. Bananas he will eat but the rest he refuses.

Sunday after church we took a trip to the Houston Space Center which happens to be fairly close to where we live. It was a neat place to visit. Not ideal for Haakon’s age but perhaps he will enjoy it more when he is older. We decided to take the tram ride. Haakon was very excited at first but his patience gave out when it took too long to board all the people. He decided he wanted out! There was a sweet couple in front of us who were expecting their first baby. I hope Haakon did not traumatize them too much with his dramatic behavior to persuade us to get off. Once the tram started to move, he enjoyed the ride and watched everything we went by. We even saw a few tractors to his delight and cows. No, we found out the cows don’t go in space but NASA let’s the local school’s FFA department use them for learning and showing and all that. (These cows had LONG HORNS!)
Haakon was also a bit disappointed when we would not allow him to climb on the rockets. He just did not understand what the point of just looking at them and walking by when they appeared to be so much fun to climb on. (his reactions can be seen in the pictures)
Perhaps we can bake a little cake or some cup cakes tonight in celebration of another month. I have buttermilk and sour cream that needs to be used and we mustn’t let it go to waste!

Yesterday we had our monthly check up for the baby! All went well. It was the appointment for the glucose test. Haakon was a bit jealous that I was given a bottle of juice and he was not. I had his sippy cup handy but that just was not good enough.

He was very excited to hear the baby's heart beat and see me get measured. He kept saying "Baby, baby, baby." I am measuring right at 27 weeks and thankfully I have not gained a gazillion pounds yet. Just 23 so far.

We plan to sign up for a Sibling Class/Hospital Tour. Children are not allowed on the Adult hospital tour. There is a seperate one if you have kids and they teach the kids about new babies and how to help and care for them. Not sure how much Haakon will get out of it but it will be fun. We might wait till October for the class. We figured that the reason they have a seperate tour of the hospital is to not scare the newly expectant Mom's and Dad's of what they have gotten themselves into! hehe!
But they will soon discover what an amazing miracle and blessing children are. Each day they fill your life with joy (a couple moments of frustration) but at the end of the day when you tuck them in and kiss their cheeks you can't help but just think they are perfect in every way and forget all they bad moments they might have had throughout the day.

It was just the cutest thing ever!!!!
Prior to leaving for church Sunday morning, Haakon grabbed my cell phone and insisted on taking it with. Once buckled into his seat I ask for the phone but was not given it. He said he needed it. So I thought, oh well, what can it hurt.. the worst he could do would be to break it. So as we drive to church he is sitting in the back seat pretending to talk on the phone and push the buttons. Then all of a sudden we realize that he is actually talking to a real person on the phone and caring on a conversation. Giggling and all. Telling whom ever it is about the tracotrs we just drove by and the water fountains. I ask for the phone to see who this mystery person is but Haakon was not about to reliquish his phone. Finally after about 5 minutes which seemed to last forever he let me talk to the mystery person. It turned out to be Auntie Bridget. She enjoyed the chat with Haakon as much as he did. This was the first time that he has talked that much on the phone before. Lucky auntie Bridget!
Grant and I just loved listening to him jabber and listen and respond to what she was saying, we could not help but smile and giggle at his complete cuteness and charm at that moment.
