This past Memorial Day weekend we greatly anticipated the arrival of Haakon's Great-Grandpa & Grandma Seeger and Great Aunt Liz.
They came for lunch on Sunday afternoon on their treck up north from Flordia.
After lunch on Sunday we all drove to Dave & Claire's home in Austin, Texas to visit more. It was a lovely time dining on Texas BBQ, and lots of other yummys and sitting by the pool. Haakon has now a new favorite food! BBQ ribs!!! Pictures to come soon!

Baby Pumpkin is really kicking! Today for the first time I could feel and see the baby kick. How thrilling that was. Can't wait for Grant and Haakon to see.
Perhaps this one will be an active one like it's big brother Haakon.

Haakon's new obsession is the grill tools. He watched Daddy grilling on Sunday afternoon and insisted on holding the meat flipper.

Yesterday when he woke up that is the first thing he asked for. He carried it around the house all day. Of course it is not the ideal toy I would like him to play with. Big, heavy, metal. But it sure looks cool and makes him feel like he is a big boy.

We managed to hide the tools while he slept so he would not see them this morning and hopefully he will forget about them till the next time we grill.

Last night he was so sweet helping me with the baking. He helped me carry the ingredients from the pantry and watched closely as I measured each item and added it to the batter. We made cookies in the afternoon and cupcakes in the evening (had to bring them for work) He stood on a kitchen chair so he could see the mixer turn the batter. I had to run to the powder room and turned off the mixer and moved the chair back. Haakon normally follows me to the powder room chanting eewww. Well this time he did not...
Seconds later when I returned to the kitchen I find him standing on top of the counter holding his grill flipper and eating old Easter candy from the candy dish. Want a little sneak to push the chair up to the counter and climb up there. He must have scrambled up there as fast as he could. Can't take my eyes off him for a moment.
As much as I dislike the company in the bathroom, it is probably safer that way.

I have decided to blame my increased clutsy moments on my pregnancy. Last night, just to name one, I knocked over the baking soda box in the pantry and some soda fell to the floor. I groaned and decided to clean it up later, because I had to get these cupcakes in the oven so I could get to sleep. It was a couple minutes later Haakon comes up to me saying, "Eeewwww". I look at him and ask him what is eewww. He took my hand and brought me to the closet where the baking soda was spilt on the floor. He had grabbed the wash rag off the counter and had attempted to wipe it up! I nearly cried! How precious of him to want to help me clean up my own messes! He will be a good helper to me after all! I showered him with hugs and kisses!

On our way to work this morning in the car (thankfully without the flipper) Grant commented on a crazy driver and ended with a "Duh!"
Low and behold Haakon chimes in from the back... "duh!". The two boys were in the giggles now. I just know it won't be that funny when we ask Haakon something and he responds to us with a sarcastic "duh!"

One of the sweetest things he does now days is pray at dinner time with us. He has been great at folding his hands when we tell him it is time to pray, but the other day when we said it was time to pray... he folded his hands, and began to pray. We did not understand what exactly he was saying but it was in the same tone that we use. I am sure the Lord knew though! He listens. It sure blessed our hearts to hear our son pray to our Heavenly Father.

    Today Haakon is 17 months!
I guess that makes me only 2 months late on his 15 month checkup. Yesterday we went to the doctor. Haakon has grown 2 whole inches in the past 4 months but has only gained about a pound. Guess it is all that running around. Uff da, he seems a lot heavier. Doctor said he was looking good and developing well. He had to get 3 shots in his legs. He did not cry a bit for the first one. The second one he cried a touch but with the third one he screamed bloody murder!
Fell fast asleep on the ride home and then took a 2 1/2 hour nap. That evening he got a fever and was not quite himself. This morning he woke up sad and his legs were stiff. We gave him more tylonol and by the time we got to Monica's he seemed to be doing better. Poor little guy. Good news is that he does not have to go back till he is 2!

Grant and Haakon did a great job making Mother's Day special. Grant was on call this week and normally his pager never rings. (the joy of being in Rad Onc) BUT on this particular Saturday morning it went singing away with news of a patient up in Houston who was sick and needed to be treated. This was going to be a weekend process, with the patient needing to be treated on both Saturday and Sunday. So much for our weekend plans. Of course nothing was more important then the health of this patient, and it turned out she really needed to be treated with radiation. Our Saturday plans included going to Galveston to a birthday party for Kelly, Haakon's friend from day care. Kelly was turning 3 and just adores Haakon. Of course Haakon loves Kelly too, even if she has a tendency of Mother Henning him and smothering him in hugs. Apparently he knows how to hug her back really tight. So Haakon and I were off to the party without Grant. It was a beautiful warm sunny Saturday for an outdoor pool party. The kids loved swimming in the pool. Haakon was not interested in swimming but he sure had fun playing in the yard. They had a great big piñata and since Haakon was the littlest he got to swing at it first with the big colorful stick. You can about imagine how thrilling and fun that was for Haakon. He was quite good too and got some great blows in. It pained him to have to hand off the stick to the next child in line. Once the piñata had broke and the candy spilled to the ground the kids went running to pick it up. Haakon went straight for the deserted stick cause he wanted another swing at it. IT was so sweet of the other kids to bring handfuls of candy to Haakon and fill up his bag. Thankfully Haakon did not quite seem to realize what these colorful pieces were but they sure where fun to hold. Jolly Ranchers, Bubble Gum, Starburst, and Life Savers. It was a very tired, sandy, sticky, boy that I drove home that afternoon. He played hard and was a very good boy at the party. He especially loved eating the Dora the Explorer cake, punch, hot dog, and cheetos.

Sunday when Haakon and I got home from church Grant had a fabulous brunch made after he had treated the patient that morning. He had us sit down to the beautifully set table and close my eyes. Haakon watched as Grant placed the goodies on the table. It was hard for me not to peak with Haakon ohhing and ahhing. When I opened my eyes there was a stake of Pineapple Kissable pancakes toped off with a top of a pineapple. And a pretty plate of perfectly cut wedges of fresh pineapple covered in chocolate which surrounded chocolate covered strawberries too. And on top of that there was a precious home made Mother's Day card with the sweetest message inside. (I think Hallmark would love to have Grant on their writing team!) It was sure yummy! If you want the recipe for the Pineapple kissable pancakes, I am sure Grant would be happy to send it to you. It is one of his creations.
That afternoon as the rain poured down the boys let me take a lovely long nap. It was a perfect day. Hope all the Mother's out there had a lovely special day!

Haakon attended his first concert Friday evening. He saw the Beach Boys in concert at the Grand Opera House in Galveston.
Dr. Coleman (one of Grant's attendings) gave him tickets that he and his wife could not use because they were leaving for Hawaii. Even though the seats were not together we all still had fun. Haakon was quite amazed and did very well. The Opera house is so beautiful, and full of details on everything. The sound was fabulous in the opera house as well. We guessed that at least 88% of the people attending the Beach Boys were at least 50 years old and up. We were definitely a minority. I was probably born a generation or two late anyway, so we fit in. It was fascinating looking around the room at the faces of these people reliving their youth of 35 to 45 years ago. It was like they were transported to that time which seemed like not so long ago when they were dreaming or driving their muscle cars and wishing, or perhaps they were catching a wave! It was quite neat to see.

The little baby is moving. Last couple days I have felt the little one moving around. So exciting to know that there really is this little one inside.
Haakon still seems oblivious, but that is all right. We sure hope and pray he likes being a big brother and will be receptive to a little one around. I am sure he will be overjoyed when the baby is big enough to wrestle with.

Haakon has been working on his disappearing act lately. He has tried to escape from Day care a couple of times. Monica does not let him get through but he has made attempts.
Yesterday he nearly escaped from home. Praise the Lord for Guardian Angels!!!!

I am so curious to find out what this new baby will be like. Will he or she have similar personalities as Haakon, or will he or she be so different?

Haakon slept through the night again. YEAH!!!!

Haakon is starting to saw real words! His favorites are:
    Daddy
    Momma
Ja - what a good little Scandinavian boy
    Ball
    Football
Bubbles - loves to blow bubbles
    Hi
    Bye
    Yeah
    Ow - for Owie
    uhoh
He says a lot of other things but they don't sound like words that we know of yet. He really likes to make sound effects of cars, trucks, trains etc. He also likes to do "woof woof" when he hears a dog. He blows if something is hot or he should not touch it.
