After Christmas was over, we all agreed it wasn't quite the same without all our family around. We missed EVERYONE!!!!
One thing I have learned that with toddlers and babies, expect the unexpected... plans can easily change.
Christmas Eve we had planned to attend the candlelight Christmas Eve service at church. In the morning we went to church and Haakon had his first day of Sunday school. We can't believe he is already in Sunday school. Apparently he did well. His teachers are much to sweet I don't think they would say he was naughty even if he was!
Well, even though Haakon is 2,he is still not very well at sitting up in church with us.
Sunday night for the candlelight service there was no nursery. Marit always sleeps through church but tonight she was fussy! And Haakon was much too talkative. We only made it through the songs and it was time to go for us. But at least that made us really feel like Christmas was here.
We drove around a little bit on our way home so Haakon could see the Christmas lights. When we got home we had a little supper and cookies and opened presents from our family. It was so much fun to see Haakon open the presents and get so excited.
After Haakon got tucked in, Grant and Marit and I stayed up putting together Haakon's train table and wrapping up a couple of presents for the morning.
Our plans for Christmas Day were to go over to our friends, the Bonillas family. Early that morning I got a call from Jackie Bonnilas saying that they had their baby last night! What a Christmas surprise that was. They had a beautiful baby boy Christmas Day morning.
We had a lovely Christmas Day with the kids playing and napping after lunch.
What a year this has been, but no time to reflect now. Haakon needs me so I must go. Something
about his truck and Pooh bear. uff da. It must be serious!Comments:Add a comment:

Ever have one of those days when it seems like you are running in place and never getting anywhere. Sunday night I had stayed up till 3 in the morning working on Christmas busy fun stuff!
And even then I had plans of a busy day of finishing projects and gift making, packaging, shipping, shopping and baking. Oh my, those moments I forget that I have 2 little ones I am quickly reminded that I can't seem to get things accomplished as quickly as I would like.
We managed to get a few things done and one of those tasks was going to the post office. According to my agenda that day we were going to go to the post office before lunch. Lunch passed and it was pushed back till after nap time. Nap time never happened. By 4:00 I told the kids we just had to leave! Not all the packages were ready but we did our best to pack up what we had and buckle everyone in the car. I made several trips in and out of the house double checking that I had everything, wondering the whole time how I was going to get Haakon, Marit and 5 big packages into the post office. My prayers were answered upon arriving. A gentleman made a comment to me as he saw me unloading the double stroller and proceeding to load up the kids and pull the boxes out of the car. He said, "what and ordeal just to go to the post office". I responded with a, " oh, ja, nothing is simple anymore." He immediatly offered to carry in the 2 biggest boxes and I was able to load the others on the stroller. I told him he was a Christmas angel!! We met even more sweet people in the post office chatting to the kids and entertaining them while we waited and also when we were being helped. Christmas time and babies make people all the more approachable it seems.
Everywhere we went that day people told me what a joy and blessing my 2 children are. I completely agree with them. I know that it was God's way of reminding me throughout my busy day with a mile long list of things to do, to take time and appreciate all the interuptions they brought and to find joy in the sticky fingures, the spit up on my shirt, toys scattered on the floor, spilled sugar all over the kitchen, etc.. and just be thankful for my 2 sweet kids. That was just what I needed and the reminder that at some point they would get tired and sleep and then I could work in turbo speed.Comments:Add a comment:

I can't believe he is already 2!!!
He sure has brought us much joy, frustration, love, happiness, laughter, insight, lessons, hugs, and kisses.
And I look forward to more of all of the above in the years ahead.
We had a fun day with a birthday party in the morning. We served breakfast and cake. Even the kids decorated a "snow man". Haakon was sure showered with friends and presents. I think he had a lot of fun! It was a very warm day even for us.
The night before we attend the Coleman holiday party. (Rad Onc Dept) Marit was the youngest in attendance and was held my many. When she returned to my arms right before we left she looked at me and smiled. Almost saying... there you are Mommy! As we were tucking in our darling little ones into bed, I could smell at several fragrances on Marit from all the ladies that held her. Not a bit of spit up could be smelt! Amazing!
Poor Daddy blew up almost every one of the 50 balloons for the party. Oh the things we do for our children. Haakon has a new bruise on his forehead due in part to the balloons and also his older inventive friends who created a bit of a balloon incident when they encouraged Haakon to run through a hallway of balloons only to trip and fall and hit a corner wall. Poor guy! Where were the eyes in the back of my head then? If anyone knows where I can acquire a set or how one gets them, I would be very grateful. My Mom had them I am sure when I was little. Perhaps I will ask for that for Christmas!
My wish for you Haakon is that this new year will be filled with amazing adventures for you and lots of learning opportunities for you to grow and discover the many wonderful things God has made.
I hope you learn more patience, wisdom, thoughtfulness, and know that we love you and want only the very best for you!

Marit loves bathtime. She is as happy as can be and not a bit nervous of the water. She just loves to swim already. She does not even mind it when her big brother is splashing all around.
Marit also gave us a little giggle today. It was too precious!
Haakon is such a good helper. He loves to do little tasks and get praised for doing them. He is always looking for something to fix or take apart. He checks everything for batteries. He also takes inventory of our batteries.
He is getting better at his ABCs and 123s. His new favorite thing to look for when we are out an about is ladders atop of trucks, vans, etc. and HUMMER trucks. He loves Hummers. He sometimes exclaims Hummer to every large SUV but we have started explaining the different kinds... Escalade, Tahoe, Explorer...Perhaps we should practice our colors with trucks and cars!
Today we had our 6 week pp visit. Thankfully Daddy got to come to. I hardly doubt that I would have survived the visit without him. Our 5 minute check up was proceeded by a 1 and a half hour wait. Uff da. Much too long with little ones. Not to mention it was over lunch time and Haakon had already finished his snack and juice off well before we got there. So we were all starving. After awhile we quit working so hard to make Haakon quite. We figured his lovely voice drifting out through the crack in the door would help to remind them that we were still patiently waiting to be seen. Haakon did great! Marit only fussed briefly and was back to sleep after a bit to eat.
Today Grant had an emergency consultation with a little girl about the same age as Haakon. I can't recall all the details of her tumor and such but, this poor little girl is in lots of pain. She is not expected to live much longer. He said the parents were around our age as well. We have so much to be thankful for. My heart aches for that family. I praise the Lord daily for healthy children, and after hearing that story I will be even more thankful. I can't even imagine! Haakon and Marit got extra hugs and kisses tonight before going to bed.Comments:Add a comment:

This is the first day I am back at work and Haakon and Marit are at Monica's. It is sad, but I was encouraged when I went to Monica's over lunch that both Haakon and Marit were doing great. Poor Monica must have her hands full with 4 little toddlers and now Marit.
Grant had to leave by 5:45 this morning. He felt bad he was not able to help me out. Thankfully I was able to finish getting ready and eat breakfast before the kids woke up. I got Marit changed, dressed, fed, and in her seat before waking Haakon up to get him ready to go. We were out the door by 6:45. It was a miracle no less.
Tomorrow I work from home.
We are excited about Haakon's birthday coming up this Saturday. We can't believe he is already 2. It sure has been a fun two years and oh have they flown by fast!!!
Dana Widman made him the cutest birthday invitation/ announcement ever! She is so talented. We are planning to celebrate his birthday in the morning when he is at his happiest and before nap time. Breakfast is on the menu with cake to follow. We are trying to do a winter hockey theme. I make things too hard... they don't have hockey decorations down here. I should have went with Cars or something like that!!! Next year I will go to the party store and then decide on a theme!Comments:Add a comment:

I am sad to report that Marit has her first bug. Our poor baby is sick, thanks in part to her snotty nose germ infested big brother. He just can't stop hugging and kissing her and passing on his germs. She is just so little to be sick. Please pray she gets better soon. Hearing this horrible cough come out of someone so little is heartbreaking.
We tried attempting to take pictures of the kids for Christmas. It was impossible! Oh well.
Haakon still loves to be held and carried. He is always saying he wants to hold me.
The funny thing is I apparently don't hold him right anymore. He is used to me holding him up high as I had to when I was pregnant with Marit.
Now without that big tummy I can't prop him up the way I used to. Poor Haakon...
We went on an adventure yesterday. Haakon in stroller and Marit in the over the shoulder baby holder and we were off to the park to play. Marit and I were ready for a nap once we got back. Too bad Haakon wasn't! :)Comments:Add a comment:

We were wondering when the day would come when Haakon would move from his beautiful round crib to his "big boy bed".
How would we know what was the right time?
Well, those questions were answered today. It is time to move out of the crib and into the big boy bed when the crib breaks.
Ja, Haakon broke his crib. It was actually the brackets on the gate that broke.
Grant is working on a plan to repair it. Leave it to Daddy to come up with an ingenious plan!
So right this very minute Haakon is sound a sleep in his big boy bed dreaming sweet dreams. We moved the crib into Marit's room. And now Haakon has much more room to play.
I must also document how much Haakon loves to hold and kiss his sister. If ever a time should come when either one of these 2 sweet kids dislike each other... I want them to know that Haakon can not get enough of wanting to hold and kiss Marit. He is always concerned when she crys and has a need. He even tells me when I should change her diaper. Of course there are times where he is rough and not too careful. I know Marit gets a bit nervous around him at times. Hopefully they will learn fast how to love and play with each other.
And may they always know that no matter what, they are so important to one another and can always count on each other for anything. That is the way all siblings should be!!Comments:Add a comment:
