Yesterday Haakon got his first skinned knee. He was having a great time outside playing with Ryan when he ran down a sloping drive way, picked up momentum and hit the pavement and skinned his little knee. He did not cry much, but is very well aware of his scraped up knee. We took pictures and will have to post later today. Hopefully he will not have as many scraped knees as his mother, which are tattooed with pavement and gravel.
Haakon received his first birthday party invitation. His friend Noah at day care is turning 4. It is an Incredibles themed party. Should be fun. It is at a park and Haakon will really love that! It is funny to think how an outside February birthday party in Minnesota would be a skating or sledding party followed by warming up inside with great big cups of cocoa and marshmallows. (I am sure Aunties Bridget and Laynie can relate) But here in Texas, it will be like a summer birthday with nice weather perhaps in the 70s.

We are going to have to keep Haakon out of the public eye for a while. He has way too many little bumps and bruises on his head and face. He has had such a rough weekend when it comes to bonking himself into things. Either he has to learn to be more careful otherwise we are going to have to pad the whole house and get him a helmet.
Haakon's personality is sure developing and one thing we have learned is that he is a rough and tumble bull in a china cupboard kind of boy. He loves nothing more then making loud noises by banging objects against the coffee table, floor, windows, and walls. When Haakon moves it is at full force and as fast as his little legs can take him. We found ourselves telling him "NO!" alot this weekend and "becareful". Haakon does not show remorse very often, unless of course if someone is hurt. Otherwise, we can say no and he just smiles at us and keeps on doing what he is doing. It seemed like no matter how much explaining and low sounding serious Nos we said, it did not matter to him. Hopefully some of it is sinking in.
One thing we are very excited about is his interest in books is growing and he will actually sit and listen and get excited about the pictures and story.

I so look forward to my "lunch dates" with Haakon during the days we go to work. This afternoon I found it very busy at Ms. Monica's. She had an extra little one named Connor. He is 11 months old. I got to help hold the other little ones after Haakon nursed while Monica prepared the lunch for the kids. They were so sweet. I did not notice till returning to work that I had food particles from little hands that had held an animal cookie all over my outfit. Oh well. It washed off. :)
I was told that Haakon was climbing all over everything today. He was standing on chairs and climbing up on the tables too. He is turning into a monkey. Yesterday, for the first time, when I picked him up he did not want to go. He was so busy playing outside in the sand and with the car that to leave was just not what he wanted to do. I promised him we could go see daddy at work and he could play with all his interesting gadgets, books, charts, and computers he has in his residence room. He liked that idea and the big fish tank in the waiting room. Even though it was a bit of a struggle to get him out of the plastic toy car into our car, it was very comforting to know how happy and content he is at Ms. Monica's with all his friends.

Haakon is so brave! Our Dr. appointment started good and ended BAD. Haakon enjoyed the fish in the waiting room and flirting with the clerks at the front desk. Once in the clinic room he had fun smushing and ripping up the paper and watching the cars drive by through the 3rd story window. He was perfectly still when he was weighed and measured. He even was good and patient when they listened to his heart and took his temp. It took a little encouragemnt to show the Dr how well he walked, but after a minute or so he was showing her all his tricks. Even his latest of attempting to open doors. For being such a good patient he was awarded a Scoobie Do sticker. He saw a little girl named Chloe in the waiting room with her mom and grandma and ran up to her to give her a hug before she went in for her shots. When it was Haakon's turn he held Bjorn and did not cry till he was stuck the 3rd time. Such a tough guy! But that was nothing compared to what followed. We were then asked to drive to Lab Corp for them to get blood from Haakon to test for who knows what. I assumed a fingure prick but it turned out to be a full blown blood draw. He did not make a peep when they stuck the needle in but of course they missed and then prodded around and could not get it so they moved to the other arm!!!!!! They finally got it. But I do not think the torture was worth it. I feel like a horrible mother for allowing them to attempt to draw blood. Never again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for something so insignificant.
We decided to do something fun so it was off to the grocery store to drive the cool car carts. Haakon and Bjorn got strapped into the little car and steered away while we shopped for a couple essentials. That seemed to do the trick to cheer him up. A very long nap followed that afternoon for him. He woke up happy and we played with the neighbor kids and he showed them his bandaids.
They all commended him on being so brave.
Haakon has also been trying to help or disrupt the sewing of new curtians for the living room. We have 4 panels done and just 2 left to do. Ryan and Andrew stopped over to give their critique. Well it passed with the neighborhood boys so I am happy.
Haakon met a new friend on Saturday. Her name is Elizabeth and her daddy is a Radiation Oncologist too. We had a great time getting to know the Cavey family. Haakon made himself at home and explored all of Elizabeth's toys. We are not sure if he made a very good impression on her though. He could not resist pulling her beautiful curls. Poor Elizabeth! We are extreemly sorry.
Yesterday we had a fun morning playing at Ryan's house. Ryan is so good at teaching Haakon new tricks.

Tomorrow Haakon goes for shots. Poor kido. He will be brave though.
Haakon has become so attached to his "Fur Friend" Bjorn. He is a bear but not really stuffed. He is automated yet furry. Haakon did not give it much attention till we put the batteries in and turned Bjorn on. Now he has become Haakon's best friend. Not only does he carry him around the house, take him to bed with him, take him on trips to the store or daycare, but he even likes to share his food with him. He loves Bjorn so much that he even wanted to share Mommy's milk with Bjorn. Luckly Bjorn came with his own bottle so he can have that. (Mommy is not going to nurse bears) Bjorn has been known to accidentally startle or confuse people as they pass us in a store or on the street. They don't quite know what to think when they see this bear move his hands and make cute baby bear sounds at them. Haakon is even starting to make the sounds Bjorn does. This is one favorite toy!
We have so loved seeing Haakon start to change more and more each day. Our little baby is starting to seem more little boy then baby these days.
We feel so blessed and honored to be Haakon's parents. We pray daily that we can be good parents to him. He sends his cute wave and big grin to all!

Grant and I just don't quite understand it, but Haakon has attracted quite a following of neighborhood friends. Most of these friends are at least 5 years older then him. Saturday and Sunday our doorbell rang a half a dozen times. All little friends calling on Haakon. At one point we had 6 little neighborhood kids playing with him in our house. We could understand this if he was older, but he is just one. Haakon loves the attention. Anytime he sees his friends he squeals with delight. He loves their big bikes and scooters and watching them play ball and zip up and down the street. He only wishes he could do what they are doing. Lucky for him, they are nice enough to drop everything and come and dote on him and argue over who he likes the best. Haakon can just now reach the door knob and I know it won't be long before he can answer the door himself. I don't know if I should keep the cookie jar stocked or not. :)

Christmas was wonderful. You could tell that Haakon was enjoying every minute being surrounded by all his family and eating up all the attention. It truly was a blessed time spent with family and friends. It went much too fast though. It made us realize how much we need to treasure times like Christmas where we were all together.

Daddy got to experience first hand what a busy boy Haakon can be on an airplane. I was sure thankful that there were 4 hands to hold him rather then just 2. Anticipating the flight home I was a bit nervous, but God answered our prayers and he put Haakon in a deep sleep the whole flight. It was nothing short of a miracle.
It is true that especially at Christmas time there are miracles everywhere. You have to watch for them at times. Mom was praying so much that everyone would be well at Christmas. God answered her prayer and as far as I know we all felt pretty good at Christmas aside from sniffles. It was the before and after Christmas that 7 of us got so sick.

The snow fell so beautifully Friday morning at Bridget and Ryan's house. There was tons of white fluffy snow covering everything. It was gorgeous!!! Haakon loved the snow as long as it was not on his face. Too cold and wet.
He is back to shorts and t-shirts here in Texas.

Haakon is loving all his new toys he has from birthday and Christmas. He does not know where to start when he plays. His big Thomas though is by far a favorite. I can't wait till his little legs are long enough to power it on his own. But for now he helps us get our exercise!
